It scared him silly - the Earth ships were whizzing past so noisily his fingers were aching, and there were so many.... so many humans. Hurdy was lonely.
He lived on his own in a big blue house, not near a town or a village, but near a big forest. Hurdy didn't have many friends. Only his cat, Parsnip, whose only activities were eating and sleeping... and sometimes lolloping over to the sunshine patches on the living room floor where he would stretch his flabby belly out to the warmth and snooze all day. But still, Hurdy was lonely. Parsnip wasn't much of a conversationalist, and the forest seemed empty of all living things. 'The others should be coming out now,' she said, glancing towards the grey-brown building. Lily sighed and leaned her head on Leigh's shoulder. 'You alright, babe?' 'Yeah, just tired.' 'You'd better come to afternoon groups,' Leigh laughed, putting an arm around Lily and hugging her close. Lily sighed again, a light dragging noise that sounded like an echo on the grey wind.
